Being louder, more aggressive and ‘bettering’ the ball were 14 Betas goals heading into the weekend at the President’s Day Tournament. The weekend was a one of constant improvement individually and as a team. The girls covered the floor better each match and surprising themselves on what they could dig up and continue play.
Saturday morning the team went 1-2, the losses coming in the first two matches of the day with far too many serve receive errors against Olympia Black and OJVA White. In the final match of the day, serve receive errors were kept to a minimum and the team rattled off 23 ace serves en route to a 3 set victory over NW Juniors-Heat. Sunday was a day of battles, every match played by 14 Beta went into three sets. The first match of the day they lost 19-25, 25-19, 8-15 to Sudden Impact with serve receive being an issue again. However, in the final two matches of the day serve receive improved as did the consistency of the offense. In the final matches of the day, the team fell to Spokane Sky 25-23, 18-25, 14-16 and played their best volleyball against Portland’s MAC in a 14-25, 25-20, 13-15 loss. Against the MAC, the girls were down 14-8 in the final set and got the serve back and ran off 6 unanswered points before the MAC finished it off. Despite not winning a match, the girls battled until the end of every match and grew stronger as a team unit.
Monday the team was a bit smaller after a couple girls left, but they were just as competitive as the day before. They defeated NW Juniors 13s in the first round of bracket play 25-13, 25-23 and had 22 ace serves. In the second round match, the girls battled Eclipse Tappo to a three set match even after subbing in a new player to middle because of and ankle injury. 14 Beta had 13 ace serves and ran their offense more times in the 25-20, 23-25, 13-15 loss than they did in any other match.
It was a great weekend of volleyball for the 14 Betas.
