18 Alpha Gold; April Power League Recap
Goal 1: Win our pool. Check. Goal 2: Win our cross-over. Check. Goal 3: Win the championship game. Almost. 18 Alpha Gold came out strong Saturday morning proving we would be the team to beat by winning a tough fought match against Webfoot’s top team. Although our play wasn’t always pretty, we were able to test our mental toughness by beating North Clackamas and Columbia 18 Red to win our pool. In our cross-over we were challenged with a rematch against Oregon Juniors with whom we lost to at a previous power league. After a close three set match we pulled out the win to finish first in our pool. The championship match proved to be a difficult one for us facing an energized CCVC team. After splitting one and one with them, we were tired. With all but one matches of the day going three games, it proved to be a long day, and we couldn’t quite hold on to the win. All in all it was an extremely successful day for 18 Gold. As a team we were able to pass a 2.09 with Ellie Drain passing a 2.08, Claire Tolbert passing a 2.11 and Heather Meeuwsen passing a 2.41. We had a total of 20.5 blocks, Brandie Hill with 4.5 and Samantha Bruno with 9.5. Claire and Sam were also able to hit over .200; .207 and .289 respectively, while Kelsie Christensen had an amazing 47 kills. The team also served a total of 35 aces while keeping their services aces down to 18 for the day.
