The Athena 12 Alpha team had a great weekend. We went into the first week of Power League play at the #4 seed. We won our pool and held our seed against some not so challenging appointments but the girls did a great job of staying focused and finishing games. Our first cross over match was against a very tough WAVE team. They beat us at the first friendship tournament in St. Helens in the finals and the girls were let’s just say PUMPED to play them again. We came out on fire and traded points back and forth until about mid way of the first game. WAVE got a run of points a couple of times and before we knew it we were down (I think) 22 – 15. Behind some amazing tough serves by Paige Monaghan we came back and won 25 -22. We had the momentum going into the second game and the girls picked right back up were we left off and we won a much easier second game.
The Last match we played a tough OJVA team who was the #5 seed and lost in 2. It wasn’t a very close match and we definitely need to work on as a team staying focused to the end of the day. With that said, however, we finished as the #5 seed and are in the Gold division. The girls raised their level of play to a place Wendy and I had not seen before but knew they had it in them. We couldn’t be more proud of the girls. The next power league will be even more challenging and we can’t wait to get back to practice to prepare for the next level. The 12 Alpha team set a very high bar this weekend and we expect only to improve.
Go 12 Alpha!
