TOURNEY RECAP 14 alpha gold – Jan PLQ

Going into the qualifier this past weekend, we had a big target on our backs.  Everyone wants to knock off the tops seeds in the region and we were ranked #3.  Unfortunately,  our first match was against a tenacious Rimrock team.  In a tough three game match,  we dropped 13–15 in the third to ultimately finish 2nd in our pool to this team.  Dropping that first match to Rimrock meant that we HAD to win both of our other pool play matches or we were going to be out of a chance to compete in the “gold” or “silver” divisions at our first power league.  It did not come easy.  We ended up beating both Roseburg and OJVA in 3 game matches to hold on to the 14th seed.   This set us up to play the #2 seed in the first crossover match against PVC Red.  We win, we are in gold…we lose, we are in silver.  Once again the pressure was on our shoulders.  Most important match of the day and the girls played their best match of the day.  We sent PVC flying into the silver division with a solid 25-14, 25-19 win.  With this win, no matter what,  we solidified a spot in gold.  For our last match of the day,  we faced a tired Rose City team who came in at the #7 seed.  We too proved to be on the tired side in that match after a long long day of playing.   At the end of the battle,  we lost a close 3 gamer, 13-15 in the third.  We definitely got a lot of playing in with all of our 3 game matches that we played on Sunday and a taste of what the top teams in our region look like.  Now the real season starts and the true test will begin next month.  Congrats to a great start to a great season, girls!  STOMP-CLAP-ATHENA!!!
