TOURNEY RECAP 14 Alpha Gold – Seattle MLK

Over Martin Luther King holiday weekend,  our 14 Alpha Gold headed up to Seattle for a two day tournament.  The first day we had morning pool and we went undefeated with the opposing team’s scores totaling 11 points in the first match,  15 points in the second match and 27 in the third match.  The most impressive thing about our team is that we did not play down to the level of the other teams.  We played with confidence and everyone showed improvement in the two days that we were there.  It was so fun to watch everyone play and grow as players over a short weekend.  The second day of pool play was not a big challenge for us in the first two matches, defeating NW Jrs (of Washington) 25-14, 25-14 and Lake 25-2, 25-7.  Our first challenge came in our third game of pool play when we faced a talented CC Athletics team who is ranked 8 in our region.  In a close 3 game match,  we ended up beating CC Athletics after dropping the first game to them 26-27.  With a first place finish in pool and a record of 6-0 at this point,  we made it into the Gold Division of bracket play facing Washington’s ITVC top 14′s team.  With a slow start and dropping the first game 19-25,  we came back to win the second 25-22 and then shut the door in the third with a 15-5 win to put us in the semi final match.  Playing Club 253 proved to be a mental challenge for us at that point.  We ran out of gusto and lost a close two game match to finish 3rd overall and a 7-1.  This tournament proved to be a great experience for us and our only loss of the tournament came in the semi finals.  Not a bad weekend.  The only thing bad about the tournament were the icy roads on the drive home to Portland.  Great job again, girls!  STOMP-CLAP-ATHENA!
