Goddess of the Week
arete (Greek: ἀρετή). The most articulated value in Greek culture is Areté. Translated as “virtue,” the word actually means something closer to “being the best you can be,” or “reaching your highest human potential.”
The Goddess of the Week is an Athena athlete who best represents the characteristics that the mythological goddess Athena embodied. Athena is the Greek Goddess of wisdom and battle, as well as skill, strategy and heroic endeavor. We want to provide a well-rounded environment for our athletes by not only teaching technical and team skills to be successful at volleyball, but by also using the sport of volleyball to teach responsibility, integrity, and work ethic – attributes that will serve our athletes well in the game of life.
The Goddess of the Week represents the best of Athena Volleyball Academy. They are role models who have demonstrated excellence on the battlefield of the court, shown leadership as edifying team members, and have put in the sweat equity in hours of practice even when no one was looking.
Each week, all coaches will nominate one of the girls from their team based on their performance in many areas that best embody the spirit of Athena. One player will be selected from the 12s & 14s and one player from the 16s & 18s.
