Lena Chan
Lena Chan is originally from Hawaii and attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she played Division I volleyball in the Big 12 conference. After university, Lena was a high school Math and Engineering teacher before she found her calling as a coach. She was head coach at Mt. Hood Community College for 6 years where she guided the Saints to three NWAACC Championships and where she received multiple NWAACC coach of the year awards. In looking to grow volleyball at a grassroots level, Athena Volleyball Academy was founded by Lena in 1999 and she has continued to serve as director and coach. After Mt. Hood, she then accepted a head coach position at Pacific University in Forest Grove, where they recorded one of the biggest turn arounds in NCAA history in 2011.
In 2012, Lena moved to Germany with her husband Alex and two daughters, Malia and Maile. There, Lena played and coached professionally with the VfL Nürnberg Bundesliga team and received Coach of the Year honors in 2015-16. Since 2017, they have returned back to the US and is focused on her passion to develop and build kids through sport.
Athena Volleyball Academy is the premier junior volleyball club for boys and girls. Based in Beaverton, Oregon, Athena’s mission is to develop life skills through the sport of volleyball. Athena has grown into one of the largest and most successful clubs in the Northwest.
