Mike Gaffaney

Mike is currently the head coach at Glencoe High school and brings an impressive wealth of career experience.  His formal background includes an undergraduate degree in Economics from University of California Los Angeles and a Masters degree in Athletic Administration / MBA from Seattle Pacific University.  Mike’s professional career in the sports and athletic industry has span well over 30 years and includes executive positions as Regional Athletic Director with the Seattle Club organization managing and operating premier private athletic club facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest, and General Manager positions with clubs in the Seattle, Eugene and Portland areas.  In 2012 Mike accepted the position as Director of Sports and Development with the Eugene Sports Commission where his accomplishments include helping to secure NCAA National Championship events, OSAA State High School State Championships and an array of world, national and regional sporting events to the region.  As a head coach Mike has over 22 years of experience at the collegiate, club and high school levels.  He has coached high school girl’s volleyball throughout Oregon and Washington at the 1A through 6A ranks, with the unique distinction of leading each and every program to their respective state tournaments.  Mike has coached USA Volleyball (club) for the past 20 years, and is the founder and Director of King County Volleyball Club in Washington, and Director of Oregon Volleyball Club, guiding countless high school student-athletes on to compete at the college level.   His collegiate coaching career includes Head Coaching positions at Seattle Pacific University and Northwest Christian University, as well as co-coach and Head Coach positions with the University of Washington, Seattle University and University of Oregon women’s club programs.  As well as Director of Nike volleyball camps and guest camp coaching positions at Stanford, UCLA, University of Washington, Oregon State University and University of Oregon.  In addition to volleyball Mike’s coaching career also includes USA age group swimming, diving, water polo, and junior tennis (USTA).  As an athlete Mike has played competitive volleyball both indoor (USAV & NCAA) and outdoor (sand, AA & AAA rankings) throughout his high school, collegiate and post-collegiate careers.
