Club Tryouts

Welcome to the Club Tryout page.  We are excited that you are interested in becoming part of our Athena/Ajax family.  There are many things that make our club a unique experience for your player.  If you would like to learn more about what makes Athena special, please visit our Why Athena page.

 

INFORMATION MEETINGS

Come learn about the upcoming season with Athena and Ajax Volleyball at one of the following information meetings:

STEP 1 - DETERMINE YOUR PLAYER'S AGE GROUP

Review the USAV Age Definition Chart to determine what age your player is eligible play. 

11 & Under - Eligible for 11U & 12U

12 & Under - Eligible for 12U

13 & Under - Eligible for 13U & 14U

14 & Under - Eligible for 14U

15 & Under - Eligible for 15U & 16U

16 & Under - Eligible for 16U

17 & Under - Eligible for 17U & 18U

18 & Under - Eligible for 18U

11U and 12U Teams

Sunday, November 3rd

Check-in 8:15-8:30am.  Tryouts 8:30-10:30am,  Meet your coach and checkout 10:15-11:15am

 

13U and 14U Teams

Sunday, November 3rd

Check-in 11:15-11:30am.  Tryouts 11:30-3:00pm,  Meet your coach and checkout 2:15-3:15pm

 

15U and 16U Teams

Sunday, November 17th

Check-in 8:10-8:30am.  Tryouts 8:30-12:00pm,  Meet your coach and checkout 11:15-12:15pm

 

17U and 18U Teams

Sunday, November 17th

Check-in 12:15-12:30pm.  Tryouts 12:30-2:30pm,  Meet your coach and checkout 2:15-3:00pm

STEP 4 - TRYOUT REGISTRATION

Click here to register for tryouts.

Note that you will need your medical insurance information including an electronic copy (scan or picture) of both sides of your medical insurance card.  You will also need to register or renew your USAV/CEVA membership prior to completing this registration.

Payment will be made at the end of the registration via our secure payment system GroundWork.  Please have your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or ACH Bank Account information available.

STEP 5 - CHECK-IN AND TRYOUTS

There will be a check-in desk as the girls enter the gym where we will assign each athlete a tryout number.  We ask that parents stay well back from the tryout courts as there is not enough room around the edges of the court and to allow the athletes to focus better.

 

STEP 6 - PARENT MEETING / TEAM REGISTRATION / DEPOSIT / APPAREL ORDERS

 

At the conclusion of tryouts we will announce the teams.  (We will also ask if anyone would like to be put on an "alternates" list just in case someone doesn't accept their spot.)  After the team announcements, each coach will meet with their players and parents to introduce themselves, go over the team's practice and tournament schedule, review their coaching philosophy, and cover the "acceptance and deposit" steps if you choose to accept your spot on the team.

 

After the team meeting you will need to log on to your Athena account that you created to register for tryouts.  There you will complete your team registration.  Please make sure to select the correct team.

 

To complete your team registration you will be asked to pay the deposit amount listed on the team information page.  This is how you "accept" your spot on a team.  If this deposit is not paid then the spot may be offered to someone on the waiting list.  Deposits amounts are based on the amount of travel your team does.  This deposit can be paid online by card or electronic check at the registration desk.  This "deposit" is non-refundable and will be applied towards your total season dues.

 

Your team registration will also require you to turn in your uniform sizing and shoe sizes online.  There will be an apparel table available where athletes can try on clothes and shoes to determine their correct sizing.  All sizes need to be submitted the day of tryouts so that we can finalize orders in a timely manner.

 

Each Athena athlete will leave the gym with their practice t-shirts and Nike shoes. Other Athena items will available for sale at tryouts.  We also hope to offer an on-line store to purchase remaining item after tryouts but the best time to purchase Athena gear will be at tryouts.

 

STEP 7 - ALL-CLUB / COLLEGE RECRUITING MEETING

Monday, November 18th from 7-8pm at Valley Catholic High School Auditorium

 

We will have an all-club meeting to clarify questions about travel, apparel orders, team schedules, college recruiting, etc.  We hope that this meeting will answer many of the questions that arise after teams are made and allow us to start the year off on the right foot.

STEP 8 - START OF PRACTICES

Practices start the day after the All-Club meeting in accordance with your team's schedule.  If your team practices on Tuesdays, your first practice is November 19th.  Otherwise, your first practice is on Wednesday, November 20th.
